CMAA's CCM Programme

CMAA's curriculum is based on competency areas covering every aspect of a club management professional’s job and responsibilities. These professional competencies represent the skills and knowledge that are highly valued and required for success in the club management career path.

Certification Criteria

  • Individuals are required to attain 300 credits from either tertiary education or industry accredited courses.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the industry is required before qualifying to sit the certification examination.
  • The CCM examination contains 400 multiple-choice questions taken at random from a central databank.
  • Only those who achieve above 70% aggregate are accredited as “Certified Club Managers” (CCM).
  • The certification is valid for a 5-year period. Education must be maintained by attending additional development courses (120 credits over 5 years).
CMA NZ currently has 15 CCM qualified Managers in New Zealand and a further 3 qualified CCM Managers working overseas.

BMI (Business Management Institute) Programmes

CMA NZ currently delivers all of the required BMI programmes which were developed by Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and are used by seven Club Associations worldwide as the framework for their education programmes. Specific material is adapted to suit local conditions.

Certification

Education is essential, but CMASA provides a credible certification programme which proves that the manager has understood the subject matter and retained what has been taught.

The club management industry now sets the standard whereby qualifications and certification benchmarks are the accepted industry standards of knowledge required to do the job.

What is the CMA NZ education programme?

Five 40-hour intensive week-long courses supplement managers’ skills:

  • BMI I Club Management
  • BMI II Leadership Principles
  • BMI III General Manager/ COO
  • BMI IV Food & Beverage

Managers can take one course a year, completing four courses over 3-5 years.

BMI Sports and Recreation Management:

Explore and lead all aspects of the club’s recreational features.

Joe Perdue Certification Review Course:

Helps managers prepare for the CCM exam. Optional sixth day available for fully qualified students.

BMI International

Presented in conjunction with CMAA, BMI International is an educational and cultural experience designed specifically for club management professionals.

Upon attaining the Certified Club Manager qualification, further ongoing personal development opportunities become available. These include the Certified Chief Executive (CCE), Honour Society, and Master Club Manager (MCM).

Certified Chief Executive (CCE)

The Certified Chief Executive (CCE) designation was developed to recognize those managers who have shown the ability to successfully serve as the most senior manager in a club. The CCM designation is still the "hallmark of professionalism" within the club industry. The CCE designation is meant to augment the CCM designation, not replace it.

Honour Society

Membership in CMAA's Honour Society is open to club managers who meet the following criteria:

  • Achievement of 400 additional credits beyond certification with a minimum of 150 credits from CMAA/CMI-endorsed education programmes
  • Professional membership for a minimum of 10 years
  • Successful completion of BMI IV or BMI V

Master Club Manager (MCM)

The Master Club Manager (MCM) designation is a certification and recognition programme for a special group of professionals who have made extraordinary and long-lasting contributions to the club industry.

The MCM designation is awarded to club managers who meet the following criteria:

  • Attainment of CCM designation and Honour Society membership
  • Achievement of 200 additional credits beyond Honour Society with a minimum of 100 credits from CMAA/CMI-endorsed education programmes
  • Hold Professional membership for a minimum of 12 years
  • Completed BMI IV and BMI V successfully
  • Completed the Master Club Manager Profile and Monograph successfully
  • CMAA World Conference educational presentation based on Monograph
